The main reason to visit Hokkaido is to see the beautiful flowers. We saw pictures of rainbow-colored flower fields and booked our flights. So today we will visit and stay a night in the Furano area.
The day is off to a great start, we find a public sunflower field next to a lavender field next to a lake.
As we drive toward Furano, we meet a little fox on the road.
And a bright green grasshopper on our car grill.
We find the cheese factory. Hokkaido is a main milk production area.
And a field of incredible flowers
We find some rather expensive canteloupe melons. At 800 yen ($6) for just one slice or up to 6000 yen ($30-50) for a whole. And no it’s not this big. It’s just a regular canteloupe melon size.
And we find Farm Tomita. These photos look like we’re against a green screen, but I promise they are the real thing and completely unedited! Yes it is that beautiful there.

We are extremely lucky because we run into another fox as we hike around Farm Tomita! These wild foxes are actually quite difficult to see.
Satisfied after a long day, we head toward our stay for the night.
Little did we know, we are in store for 2 more surprises!
The first surprise is that the farmhouse AirBnB that we’re staying at has animals!! This is not listed on their listing. When we arrive, we are greeted by Moon, the very friendly dog. But turns out the owner also has two goats, a horse, a few chickens, and two owls!! What? Two owls? The owner lives in Yokohama in the winter time and the owls and dog travel with her. Amazing.
The second surprise is that the Nepalese restaurant nearby has amazing naan bread. They had amazing everything else too including the very Hokkaido dish Curry Soup. But their naan bread was legit and amazing.

What an amazing day!
